I Just Published Two Boxed Sets

Hey folks,

I’ve just published two boxed sets, Volume One and Volume Two, containing all eight books in my Tales from the New Earth series. I thought that, with Christmas coming, this would be a great way to perhaps gain some new readers, as boxed sets are a convenient way for people to pick up an entire series, (or half of a longer series), for a lower price than buying each book individually. Whether anyone is interested is another matter, but it is my favorite series so far and I do hope that others get a chance to enjoy it. The boxed sets can be seen to the right of this post.

In other news, my third book in the New Earth Chronicles series is coming along nicely and should be out in another month or two, for those of you who were asking. That’s about it for now.

Take care,

J.J.

Just Posted My First Gaming Video. What??

Hey everybody,

There are two things that I love to do in this world more than anything else: write novels and play games. Odd combination? Perhaps. But I’ve been a gamer since Pong first came out (Yes, I’m that old!) and I’ve been writing since I was twelve years old. So both passions run deep and long.

From the mid-eighties into the early nineties, I actually designed and programmed computer games, which was a blast. And I’ve been a player all that time up to the present day. So now I’m taking the next logical (or insane) step of uploading let’s play videos of some of my favorite games. Now, I don’t know if any of my readers are actually interested in such things, but if you are, I’m posting the link to the video below for your entertainment, or at least for your amusement. Watch it if you’d like and, if you do, I hope that you enjoy it.

Take care,

J.J.

Let’s Play: Grim Dawn!

It’s My Very First Vlog Ever!

Hi everyone,

This is my first vlog ever and it’s for you, my readers. You may have noticed that I don’t post here as often as I should, so very few people visit this site. Understandable, of course. But I just don’t like to write about myself, ironic as that is for a writer. And so I’ve decided to do a weekly or bi-weekly video blog instead. I’ll add a post here every time I upload a new video and, hopefully, one or two of you will watch them.

It’s a visual age, I suppose, and people like to stay in touch with each other through videos, Instagram photos, etc. So I’m hopping on board. Let’s see if I sink or swim. 🙂

Please excuse the quality of the video. It’s a new medium for me and I’m learning as I go. But I’ll get better, I swear. Also, if you’re wondering why I’m speaking over a play-through of the game, Grim Dawn, it’s because my two favorite things in the world are writing and gaming. So somehow it seemed appropriate to combine them in my first video.

Anyway, I hope you like it. It’s a short video and I sound dead inside, but again, I will get better. Take care.

My latest novel is now out! (I know, it’s been a while.)

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to leave a post and announce my latest release. It is the second novel in my new series, The New Earth Chronicles.

Before I talk about the book though, I wanted to thank you, my readers, for your continued support. It’s nice to know that people enjoy my worlds and characters enough to spend their time reading about them. As a writer, it makes the process even more rewarding. I’d also like to apologize for not posting on this blog for a long time. Summer is, as I’m sure you know, a busy time for everyone, and I’ve been tied up with several projects over the past few months. But I’ve promised myself that I would post more regularly from now on, so I’ll try my best to do that.

The new novel is called the Changelings. If any of you read the very first book in my series Tales from the New Earth, you may remember the group of children that the wizard, Simon O’Toole, ran into when he returned to Ottawa. Well, this book is about them and what has happened to them in the decade since the modern world ended and the world of magic began. However, if you haven’t read that book, don’t worry. I’ve given myself license to alter a few things to make the novel easier for anyone to follow. The privilege of being the world’s creator, I suppose. Here is the blurb:

It has been ten years since the return of the dragons and the fall of mankind. Many things have changed since then and humanity is teetering on the brink of extinction.

But back before any of that happened, something else began. Random children from all around the globe had started changing, mutating in strange ways, and neither scientists nor doctors could explain why.

Some children grew extra fingers and toes. Or claws instead of fingernails. Scales or fur instead of bare skin. Vestigial tails or wings. The many kinds of mutations seemed endless, and totally random.

These special children came to be known as Changelings. Many governments had them rounded up ‘for their own protection’ and taken to secret laboratories to be experimented upon. But then technology failed, anarchy reigned briefly and the dragons came back to destroy civilization in a wave of fire and blood.

However, some of the Changelings survived. It turned out that their mutations hadn’t been random after all. They had been caused by magic. And so these children were ideally suited to live and thrive on the New Earth.

This is a tale of one particular group of children, who lived in what remained of the city of Ottawa, and of how this new world forced them to grow up, step out of the shadows, and claim their destiny.

I hope that you all enjoy this new book. I’ve loved writing it and I’m thrilled to share it with you. The link to its page on Amazon is to the right. Take care.

Announcing my latest release!

Hi folks,

I’m very pleased to announce the release of my latest novel! Even though I have finished the Tales from the New Earth series, I wanted to continue to explore the world that I’d created from the perspective, not of Simon O’Toole, my protagonist from that series, but from the point of view of some of the people that he met along the way. And this book is the result.

There were many interesting characters that I was intrigued by in the series and I thought that it would be exciting to get to know some of them a little better, learn their backstories and see what has happened to them since Simon left the New Earth for his refuge in the Void.

One of my favorite characters from the books was Liliana Travnikov, the paladin from Moscow. For those of you unfamiliar with her, Liliana became a great friend and supporter of Simon’s and the other surviving humans and fought alongside him against the primal dragons. I thought that her backstory and journey, from starting out as a middle-aged mother and grandmother to becoming a warrior blessed by the gods would be exciting to delve into and so, The First Paladin is the result.

It’s been a lot of fun to write and Liliana turned out to be even more interesting to get to know than I had expected. Hopefully for those of you who check out her story, you will think so too. Just click on the book cover on the right see the novel on Amazon.

Each of the upcoming books in The New Earth Chronicles will build upon the others, but will also be self-contained and readable in any order.

I really hope that you enjoy these new adventures as much as I do!

Take care,

J.J.

Now available: Birth of the Resistance!

Hi everyone:

I’d like to announce the release of the first book in my new series, ‘The Psychic Invasion’. The novel is called ‘Birth of the Resistance’.

I’m very excited about this series. It’s a bit of a departure, genre-wise, from my usual books because it’s an interesting mixture of sci-fi and the paranormal. Also, instead of a single protagonist at the center of the story, this time there are two.

Twin brothers, Dylan and Devon Norris, are the focus of the series and I think that it’s going to be an exciting adventure with these guys in the lead.

Here is the blurb. I hope that you find it intriguing:

In the shadowy world of espionage, America has gained a great advantage over other countries because of a small, unknown agency simply called the Department. Completely off the grid, the Department employs a unique cadre of agents to run its covert operations: psychics.

Training for these rare and unique individuals begins as young as fourteen. It is strict, regimented…and successful. Once they graduate, the psychic spies begin taking their talents out into the field.

Untraceable and unseen, these young people have been used to ferret out state secrets from hostile governments. They’ve been able to extract evidence of high crimes from mob bosses. They have even been used to uncover traitorous acts by U.S. citizens. All safely and covertly.

The Department has had free rein to make its own agenda, choose its own targets and pass along its knowledge to other government agencies surreptitiously, keeping its existence a complete secret. It has been a remarkable success.
Until recently, that is. Because now its small group of young psychics is being killed off, one by one.

After a close friend is mysteriously killed, one of the Department’s few remaining telepaths, nineteen year old Dylan Norris, decides that he has no choice if he wants to survive; he has to run. Only by disappearing can he buy himself enough time to discover who is targeting people like him and try to neutralize the threat.

The problem is that the agency does not let go of its assets easily and, if Dylan leaves, he will find himself running not just from an unknown killer but from the Department as well.

However, Dylan has an ace up his sleeve; another psychic who remains unknown to the Department; his twin brother, Devon. Between the two of them, they will embark on a journey to discover the truth behind the savage attacks on telepaths, and the mysterious group who wants to wipe them out.

Take care,
